FedEx Express recently announced that it has donated a Boeing 727 to SUN 'n FUN to help them train future and current pilots in the classroom. “It is truly an honor for SUN 'n FUN to be recognized by the aviation industry giant FedEx as a credible air and space education center promoting the growth of aviation careers around the world," said John Leenhouts, SUN 'n FUN president and CEO. "Their investment in SUN 'n FUN's extensive year-round education programs that create pilots and mechanics is a testament to FedEx's commitment to the future of flight. We at SUN' n FUN and Central Florida Aerospace Academy are proud to be their partner in this ambitious endeavor.” The donation is the 62nd Boeing 727 aircraft since 2000 that FedEx has given to various organizations for educational purposes. Company officials noted that the most recent plane had more than 20 years of experience transporting packages throughout the United States. FedEx Express company officials noted that they were happy to help SUN 'n FUN. David Sutton, managing director of Aircraft Acquisition and Sales for FedEx said that as the company retires the 727 from their fleet, they are proud to be able to give back to the aviation community. Sutton added that the donation is just one example of how FedEx supports educational endeavors and reflects the spirit of how all the company's employees want to improve the communities they live and work in. The plane will remain fully functional for students to observe and learn form, exploring potential career paths or just the mechanical layout of the plane. SUN n' FUN fly-in rapidly approaching
SUN n' FUN is most recognized for its International Fly-in & Expo each year. The company announced at the International Council of Airshows that the United States Airforce military jet team, the Thunderbirds, will be featured at this year's event, held on April 9-14 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida. “SUN ‘n FUN is honored and excited that the world's most recognized military jet team – the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds – has included our event on their 2013 schedule,” said Leenhout. “Their participation will add to the aircraft and activities already being planned for this year's fly-in. We look forward to having the Thunderbirds here in Lakeland and know they will find the people and businesses throughout Lakeland, Polk County and central Florida to be avid enthusiasts and most hospitable hosts.” Those in the general aviation community, whether a student or seasoned veteran, are encouraged to obtain pilot life insurance.
