General aviation airplanes are a testament to the industry's growth, which has been one business sectorthat handled the recession like a clear day landing. One aviation company, SkyQuest, recently announced that they have made the Quest Kodiak airplane an authorized dealer for their locations across the globe. “The Kodiak is the perfect fit for the markets we have served and lived in for the past 25 years,” said Greg Melang, president and founder of SkyQuest International. “We look forward to a successful relationship with Quest Aircraft Co. and the customer base this outstanding aircraft will serve.” According to company officials, the Kodiak can take off in under 1,000 feet at full gross weight, and climbs 1,300 feet per minute after that. In addition, for the plane to come to a full stop, it only needs 705 feet of runway.Company officials boast that it doesn't matter how rough the strip is, no airports are necessary. The Kodiak is particularly accommodating for humanitarian, air ambulance, skydive and surveillance missions, as it is fit for rough terrain. Options for the plane include oversized tires, external baggage compartments, parachute options and a cargo drop package. SkyQuestKodiak dealers are located in North Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky, in addition to theirAfrican locations. SkyQuest and Kodiak were not the only companies making recent announcements pertaining to airplanes.Cessna recently said that its Grand Caravan EX earned a Federal Aviation Administration Type Certification, after performing better than the company initially expected. The Grand Caravan EX comes with the new Pratt & Whitney CanadaPT6A-140 engine, enabling it to have a 38 percent faster climbing rate compared to the Grand Caravan. Company officials expected the rate of improvement over the former model to be 20 percent. Initial Grand Caravan EX deliveries are under way. “When we started with this design, we knew we could push the performance envelope on the Grand Caravan EX and get it into service for our customers in ‘high and hot' missions, but the performance we've realized through the certification process with the new Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 engine has truly exceeded our already aggressive performance targets,” said Lannie O'Bannion, Cessna business leader for the Caravan. No matter how easy the clear day landing, its always important for pilots to make sure their landing gear is out. Pilot life insurance is there to support you, no matter the circumstance.
