The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh event

May 18, 2012, 02:18 pm

The Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting "The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration" from July 23 to 29. The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh takes place at the Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and nearly 500,000 fans of aviation from 60 countries are expected to be in attendance.

AirVenture Oshkosh has something for everyone, no matter the age or expertise. Visitors have the opportunity to view more than 10,000 aircraft, from home-builts to war-birds, atwhat will be the busiest airport in the world for the week.

Airplane fans are able to get an up close and personal view of some of the most unique aircraft around the world and meet the people involved. Historic planes from World War II, Korea and Vietnam have been restored for Scotts Warbirds Alley, one of the most popular attractions.

The event features countless activities in honor of the spirit of aviation. An opening day concert will kick things off with a “big-time” performance. This year’s headliner has not been announced, but former performers have included The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, The Beach Boys, REO Speedwagon and Foreigner.

Other main events include a three-hour airshow following the opening concert, featuring unique aircraft with the world’s finest aviators. Along with afternoon airshows every day, Saturday night’s show will include fireworks and the annual Wall of Fire grand finale.

For those performers meeting the entertainment needs of the fans, pilot life insurance is a viable option to meet the needs of loved ones.

For those looking to beat the rain or get out of the sunshine, a slew of buildings are set up to educate and entertain attendees. The AirVenture museum features 200 historic airplanes, six movie theaters, art and photo galleries, flight simulators and hands-on galleries for kids. The week will host more than 500 forums from aviation leaders to NASA researchers, an innovations center, a learn-to-fly center, an EAA welcome center and KidVenture, where children can get behind the wheel of a flight simulator or build their own gliders and rockets.

Each day’s events will be capped off with Ultralight aerobatics and pyrotechnics shows and forums, the Theater in the Woods with more educational and entertainment acts, concerts and the Fly-in Theater, which will be reminiscent of a drive-in movie theater, showing a classic aviation films on the five-story tall projection screen.
