Piper Aircraft and the Piper Cub's recently announced that they will be celebrating their 75th anniversary with a customer fly-in from November 9 to 11 in Vero Beach, Florida.
“This celebration is taking on a life of its own,” said Simon Caldecott, Piper president and CEO. “Industry sponsors have been lining up, as have political leaders and the aviation media. We’ve already received well over 40 aircraft reservations for the fly-in, which will feature Piper airplanes all the way from the Piper Cub to today’s M-Class aircraft. We expect many more to commit as we get closer to the event itself.”
The event will feature more than 20 companies sponsoring activities, including a welcome reception, vendor exhibits, aircraft static display, customer awards, facility tours, a history lesson from Piper’s official historian, a Piper meet-up and a pancake breakfast.
Earlier this year, Piper Cubs celebrated the anniversary by taking to the skies in 100 of their yellow planes at the Experimental Aviation Administration's AirVenture 2012 OshKosh fly-in.
For those aviation fans who just can't wait until November for the Piper customer fly-in, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association aviation summit is just days away.
Soon, thousands of general aviation pilots and enthusiasts will be heading to Palm Springs, California, for the trade show and convention, which will feature 400 booths, dozens of aircraft on display and nearly 100 hours of seminars.
"Whether you're an aircraft owner, a pilot who rents or an aviation enthusiast, the Aviation Summit has something to offer, from the exhibits in the hall and at the airport, to the seminars and social events," said Craig Fuller, AOPA president and CEO, who is also attending the event. "You can also get answers to your aviation questions, explore all that our industry has to offer and discover new ways to get the most out of your flying."
Fuller recently attended the Southeast Aviation Expo on September 29 and said it is always great to meet people face-to-face, who share his same passion for flying and profession for advocacy, communication and leadership.
Michael Huerta, acting FAA administrator, will also be speaking at the AOPA summit to lay out his vision for the future of general aviation. In addition, actor Harrison Ford will be auctioning a ride in his plane and a lunch, with proceeds going toward the AOPA foundation.
Pilots interest in attending either of these events should be equipped with pilot life insurance before they take off.
