According to the Wichita Eagle, the Wichita Aero Club in Wichita, Kansas, is looking for nominations for its second annual Wichita Aero Club Trophy, awarded to a member of the community who makes a significant contribution to the aerospace industry.
"The Wichita Aero Club trophy has been created to recognize both contemporaneous accomplishment or a lifetime of achievement," Dave Franson, Wichita Aero Club executive director, told the source.
Nominees are typically selected for financial or personal contributions to aerospace, and the trophy may recognize a particular milestone, a notable single contribution or an aggregated dedication to the field.
Last year, Velma Wallace, the widow of former Cessna chairman Dwane Wallace, was the recepient of the award, which noted her contributions as one of the first female pilots in general aviation and her financial dedication to the Wichita community.
Aero club officials will present the trophy at an event at Wichita Airport in late January, according to the source.
Many independent and general aviation pilots who fly at regional airports belong to local chapters of pilot groups and organizations like the Wichita Aero Club. These organizations can offer support and guidance to pilots in a number of ways, including extensive and updated safety training, pilot insurance guidance and other financial considerations for aviators.
