The Wings over Waukesha Air Show recently announced a fourth aerobatics act will be added to the event, which will be held on August 25 and 26 at the Waukesha County Airport in Wisconsin. Former U.S. Air Force A-10 pilot Jim Leavelle will be performing for aviation fans in his T-6, alongside Jim Maroney Super Chipmunk aerobatics, Dave Dacy-Tony Kazian wingwalking and Dr. Bill Blank Super Decathalon.
The latest edition to the show will be the Experimental Aircraft Association's B-17 Aluminum Overcast bomber from World War II. The plane will offer rides and tours throughout the two-day event.
“The B-17 is the cornerstone of this year’s air show experience, and we have dozens of other aircraft representing the past 100 years of aviation, and they will be flying throughout the day and on display for a close-up view,” said Kurt Stanich, chairman of Wings over Waukesha. “We have a great variety of food and beverages available, and we encourage everyone to stay late Saturday evening to enjoy a live band and hot air balloon glow.”
Military veterans will be on hand near the B-17 bomber to share personal experiences while operating the aircraft and sign autographs for guests.
A parachute team will kick the air show off with a performance, the 1st Tactical Air Wing will demonstrate law enforcement's role in aviation, and a wide variety of aircraft, from vintage to contemporary, will be available for fans to admire.
Tickets are $10 per person for adults, $5 for children ages 10 to 17 and free for those under the age of 9. Discounted tickets are available for $7 at the Wings over Waukesha website.
“We’re very excited about this year’s air show, which promises to provide all of the amazing excitement of the aerobatics and military aircraft performances of last year, as well as much more activity on the ground to keep everyone entertained throughout the day,” said Stanich. “Our sponsors and exhibitors from 2011 are jumping at the opportunity to be a part of Wings over Waukesha again this year, and many of them have expanded their involvement, so we’re off to a great start."
The air show is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year, celebrating the event's role in local business, military support, emergency services and recreation over the last 100 years.
Pilots attending the event are encouraged to obtain life insurance. Before getting in the cockpit it is important to ensure family's safety.
