The general aviation community is sure to benefit from numerous advancements recently announced.
Air Belts Incorporated and Key Safety Systems recently teamed up to provide airbags to the general aviation community.
Aviation Occupant Safety will act as a single source in the engineering, development, production and testing of its inflatable restraint product line that will be exhibited at the National Business Aviation Association trade show October 30 through November 1 in Orlando.
The initial test for the Aviation Occupant Safety will focus on forward-facing inflatable restraint solutions for an aircraft's passengers and crew, with typical forward-seating configurations and side airbags for passengers occupying larger business aircraft.
Key Safety Systems is implementing its sensing and diagnostics technology that will provide mistake-proof buckling that gives crews peace of mind knowing they won't accidentally buckle the wrong belt into the wrong buckling receiver.
A second advancement for the general aviation community offers anti-skid brakes as an option to aircraft. Eclipse Aerospace recently added the Anti-Skid Braking System as new option to their Eclipse twin-engine jet.
The new system will be available as an option to the Eclipse 550 jet and will also be offered as a retrofit to existing aircraft. The company said the system allows for maximum braking energy and skid control without the use of a conventional hydraulic system.
“Testing of this system has exceeded our expectations, from normal touchdown speeds to a complete stop in less than 750 feet with aggressive braking,” said Cary Winter, senior vice president of Engineering at Eclipse Aerospace.
Included in the system is two brake control valves installed in each wheel well, two axle mounted wheel speed sensors, a computer and a software update to the jet’s Avio Processing Center. The company is also offering a weight reducing package along with ABS installations. The new system will be available early 2013.
Lastly, Sporty's recently announced that their free app for the iPad, iPhone and Android is ready to download. The app will help AOPA Aviation Summit goers navigate their way through the event scheduled October 11-13 in Palm Springs, California.
The app includes a list of exhibitions, events, speakers and learning experiences offered at the event. In addition, the app's My Summit feature can plan an attendant's day, with an hour-by-hour itinerary featuring details, times and locations of each activity.
For pilots looking to utilize the recent advancement in aviation technology, pilot life insurance is also available to make life easier.
