At the 2012 Heli-Expo in Dallas, Texas, aviation enthusiasts and professionals from all over the world got a first-hand glimpse at some applications being launched this year to give people in the industry more information from their mobile devices.
The Helicopter Association International hosted the event and demonstrated the value of many apps for aviation professionals including a smartphone app created by the organization to grant instant access to its database of industry leaders. The app also links users to the FAA databases, regulations and other resources directly on mobile devices, AIN reported.
Blue Sky Network is also offering a mobile app that allows smartphones to make satellite phone calls without a satellite phone. The app can also handle text messages and emails, making it the perfect communication device for pilots, the source reported. Pilots should also never fly without pilot insurance for added protection.
Another attendee at the expo was Eurocopter, which showcased its plans for a new X4 helicopter design that will be ready by 2017. The design will replace two of the company's existing models and is rumored to feature an innovative cockpit, Giz Magazine reported.
