While life insurance for pilots is a helpful to have, it's not the only form of protection aviators need when they take to the sky. Pilots are also reliant on air traffic controllers to help guide them safely to their destination.
Recently, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association collaborated to help make the Special Use Airspace zone safer. The area consists of Northern California, northwestern Nevada and southern Oregon.
The duo used information from the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center and the Oakland Air Route Traffic Control Center to study the effects of current procedure and the potential impact of implementing new methods.
"Both the FAA and NATCA have made leaps and bounds in the past year in the way in which we work together to bring about positive change in the National Airspace System," says NATCA president Paul Rinaldi. "The work done at Oakland Center is a perfect example of how, by working together, both parties can make groundbreaking technological changes simply by collaborating."
Air traffic controllers are known for having an extremely stressful job as they are responsible for the safety and well-being of many passengers and pilots each day.
