Airshow performer dies

In a tragic turn of events, Amanda Franklin passed away late last month, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Franklin, a wing walker, suffered extensive burns after her and her husband crash landed in South Padre, Texas, in March. This is an unfortunate reminder of the importance of pilots life insurance.
The two were performing a wing-walking show at Air Fiesta 2011 when their Waco biplane lost engine power, the news source reports. She was able to reenter the plane before the landing, but was badly burned in a post-impact fire, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
"All of us in the aviation community mourn the terrible loss of Amanda Franklin, an extraordinary pilot and ambassador for general aviation," said AOPA President Craig Fuller. "Her performances as a pilot and wing walker inspired thousands, and her loss will be keenly felt. Our deepest sympathy goes to her entire family and especially to her husband Kyle, who continues to recover from his own injuries."
Her husband Kyle, who was in the rear cockpit, was able to free himself immediately after the crash and went back to try and free his wife. Although he suffered serious injuries as well, Kyle was released from the hospital in late March, while Amanda remained in intensive care, according to AVweb.com.
