Child safety efforts on planes highlighted

Safety should be on the minds of pilots, flight attendants and passengers every time they step onto an airplane. Flying is fairly safe overall, but dangers still exist, which is one of the reasons the National Transportation Safety Board wants to help keep airlines' youngest passengers free from harm.
The NTSB recently finished its forum on child passenger safety. Discussion surrounded keeping little ones secure regardless of the mode of transportation. Members from the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA were in attendance.
AFA-CWA International president Pat Friend says the group has long supported requiring children under the age of two to have their own seat and belt.
"To achieve one level of safety for our most venerable travelers, we must develop a strong regulation and couple it with adequate monitoring and enforcement," says Friend.
In addition to making sure children are properly secure in their own seat, it's important for adult passengers and crew members to take necessary precautions for themselves. One way this can be achieved is through life and pilot insurance. The coverage can be extremely useful should something go wrong.
