Knowledge and skills credited to pilot's safety

Proper training is essential for a safe flight. Pilot Steven Walter of Butte, Montana, is a true testament to that, reports news station KPTM.
Walter's plane went down near the Missouri River and his landing is something of a miracle. The Federal Aviation Administration is still investigating the accident, but the station reports the man was able to crash-land his aircraft.
The station interviewed flight instructor Dave Smith, who said it's common for schools to teach pilots how to land a plane with a dead engine. Some believe Walter's aircraft may have experienced similar circumstances, says the news station.
Smith told the station every pilot needs knowledge and luck.
"When you start flying, you have two bags. One bag is full of skill and one bag is full of luck," says Smith. "When you take everything out of the skill bag then you go to the luck bag. As long as you've got something in there you're good to go."
There are several flight schools located across the country. It's important for pilots to get proper training to ensure their safety. In addition to education, life insurance for pilots is also needed in the event a pilot's luck runs out.
