More safety efforts being directed toward volunteer pilots

The Air Care Alliance has announced an online course that will be dedicated to training pilots who conduct medical transport flights for charitable organizations, according to AVweb.
The 45-minute course was recently unveiled at the group's annual meeting as an example of the measures the organization is taking to assist in reducing the number of fatal accidents in general aviation.
The course is still in development and ACA is receiving assistance from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association's Air Safety Institute.
The course is part of a number of recent efforts being made to keep volunteer pilots safe. In March, the National Transportation Safety Board hosted a safety stand-down to help advise pilots about how to manage potentially dangerous volunteer situations.
Other announcements the ACA made at its meeting, AVweb reports, were a soon-to-come revamped website and an amendment in the works for the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill, which would provide volunteer pilots with some liability protection.
Volunteer pilots sometimes risk their lives to perform good deeds. They may benefit from obtaining a pilot life insurance policy to ensure the wellbeing of their loved ones, should a tragedy occur.
