NTSB encourages use of restraint system when traveling with children

The National Transportation Safety Board issued an alert reminding parents they should make sure to have a device that will keep their children safe during a flight. These special systems or devices can make sure young children are safe while aircraft experience turbulence or during an accident. Having them can reduce preventable injuries or more serious outcomes for those who are under 2 years old. "While the NTSB would still like to see a federal regulation requiring the use of child restraints on aircraft, we continue to recommend that, when traveling by air, all parents purchase an airline ticket for every child in the family and place each child in a size-appropriate restraint system to ensure that everyone travels safely," NTSB Chairwoman Deborah Hersman said. Along with issuing this alert, the NTSB has been working to make sure those who fly and guide airplanes are properly trained in their duties. The board has held a number of conferences regarding pilot and air traffic controller professionalism and preparedness. That would include the issue of automation and how it may lead to pilot complacency.
