Pilot in Alaska skillfully crash-lands in swamp

According to The Associated Press, a pilot in Anchorage, Alaska, recently landed a seaplane in a treacherous swamp after it lost power shortly following takeoff, according to the Houston Chronicle. The pilot, whose name has not been released per National Transportation Safety Board policy, took off from Judd lake in remote Skwentna, Alaska, but his craft quickly lost all power.
The pilot managed to land the plane in a bush-filled swamp, a risky maneuver that officials said took skill and courage. No one was injured in the crash, but the airplane sustained heavy damage.
"They had no option but to descend into the trees," Larry Lewis, an Anchorage-based air safety inspector for the NTSB told the AP. "If he puts it in the trees and he didn't injure anybody that is a really good job."
Lewis went on to note that the pilot was very calm under pressure. Being prepared is important for any pilot, and having a pilot insurance policy can ensure adequate coverage. Most standard life insurance policies will not cover specific risks unique to an aviator's health, and a pilot insurance policy can provide comprehensive coverage, sometimes at a discounted rate through a pilot organization.
