A single-engine Cessna 210 plane crash in Roy, Utah resulted in a 46-year-old pilot being taken to a hospital earlier this week.
Pilot Clayton Roop was reportedly able to answer questions when people found him after his plane went down. Pieces of the aircraft were scattered and two nearby homes caught fire.
More than 1,000 houses lost heat and electricity as a result of the crash no one else was hurt.
It's still unknown what caused the accident, but the National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory at the time.
While it's reported Roop suffered severe burns and remains in medical care, the outcome could have been much worse. The incident highlights the need to have life insurance for pilots. A life insurance policy can help a family financially cope with the loss of a loved one.
Even the most prepared and experienced pilot can fall victim to unexpected weather hazards. It's important for people not to take flight should conditions appear hazardous. Not everyone will be as fortunate as Roop.
