Mexico reclaims standing with FAA

Mexico just received good news - the country's civil aviation authority has earned a Category 1 safety rating after falling a rating position earlier this year.
A Category 2 rating still allows a country to operate aircraft, but it is not in compliance with international rules. With the rating, Mexico could keep existing service, but could not add new flights.
"Under the leadership of Secretary Juan Molinar and Director General Hector Gonzalez Weeks, Mexico has made significant progress and is now upgraded from the Category 2 safety rating," the FAA said in a statement.
Mexico has requested that the Federal Aviation Administration provide ongoing assistance.
After the downgrade was issued this past summer, a report in Air Transport World cites the Mexican Communications and Transport Department as saying the downgrade was solely because of administrative reasons and that their airlines were in fact safe.
The thought of getting onto a plane with unqualified personnel is enough to make one realize the value of life insurance. Frequent fliers and pilots should consider purchasing a policy if they don't already have one.
