Proper maintenance crucial to flight safety

Before taking off, pilots have a list of safety checks that should be completed in advance.
A good pilot will thoroughly go through their checklist to ensure their aircraft is ready for flight. It's also important for planes to receive proper maintenance on a regular basis.
In addition to the aforementioned examples, pilots should also ensure they have enough fuel to reach their destination. While driving a car, a motorist if often met with several opportunities to refuel, the same cannot be said for general aviation pilots.
Not properly estimating fuel needs resulted in a small plane making an emergency landing in Nevada, reports ABC affiliate KTNV. Instead of being able to land at an airport, the aircraft touched down at the intersection of Cheyenne and Jones.
The station says the plane landed without causing injury to the plane's occupants or damaging any buildings.
While this story has a happy ending, that isn't always the case. Something as simple as underestimating fuel needs and not following safety checks can result in disaster. Having life insurance for pilots can help add an extra layer of protection when in flight.
