Air Force veteran killed in plane crash in rural Pennsylvania

Aaron Olmstead, a decorated veteran from Connecticut, was killed recently when his plane crashed in Benezette, Pennsylvania. One witness told WJAC-TV that the plane's engine "kept shutting off like it was dying, and then it would come back on." He said that the single-engine plane started rolling before it plummeted to the ground.
Family members told the Hartford Courant that Olmstead had been working as an aviation consultant, assisting in private, government and military accident investigations. The retired Air Force lieutenant colonel served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Panama, Somalia and Grenada and will be buried with full military honors.
Olmstead was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind his wife, three children and five grandchildren. The seasoned pilot may be able to posthumously provide for his family if he had term life insurance. It is important for any pilot, regardless of age or experience, to have pilot life insurance in case he or she is involved in an accident.
The Civil Air Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration are still investigating the cause of the crash.
