Student steals show at flight competition in Allentown, Pennsylvania

A 14-year-old student pilot took first prize at a spot landing contest in Pennsylvania. Competing against eight veteran pilots, young Jacob Barson was the first to fly at the Allentown Queen City municipal airport, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
"Most people come in too short but he had enough ability to pull it off," Chic Hibert, the boy's instructor, told the AOPA. A few of the other pilots remarked that the contest was pretty much over after Barson's landing.
The boy was able to compete even though he's still a student because designated examiners went along for the ride with all of the competing pilots.
Barson has been flying with his father since a very young age. Even though he's still in training, it could be wise for him, as well as other student pilots, to look into term life insurance. It may be a few years until Barson takes his first solo flight, but he can still consider purchasing pilot life insurance to cover any incidents.
AVweb says that pilot life insurance premiums are determined by a multitude of factors, which can encompass student pilots. Since students fly with instructors, the risk factor is lessened, which may make the insurance less expensive.
