Airline shows support for breast cancer research

September 30, 2010, 11:01 am

Cancer has unfortunately touched the lives of most people in one way or another. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says more than 40,000 women died from breast cancer in 2006. Delta Airlines is doing its part to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Delta Airlines CEO Richard Anderson says that a number of the company's employees have been touched by the deadly disease. His own mother died from breast cancer, so fighting the condition has a personal meaning for him as well.

People can create a pink lemonade stand and make a donation to the BCRF on the airline's Facebook page. Dela Airlines has also painted a Boeing 767-400 with a pink ribbon to show its devotion to the cause.

"Delta really 'goes pink' in October, when thousands of our Delta flight attendants and customer service agents wear pink uniform pieces to support the cause," says Delta Airlines senior vice president of in-flight service Joanne Smith. "Our employees and ourcustomers look forward to this effort every year."

Furthermore, every iPhone application download or flight check-in made using a cell phone will result in Delta Airlines donating 100 Skymiles to BCRF.
