Delta Airlines has made sizable donations in the past. Recently, the airline has committed to donate $1 million to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, where the company is based.
The project is set to commence late next year, with the facility opening in 2013. The center will feature a number of exhibits aimed at highlight the struggles of obtaining human rights.
Delta Air Lines chief executive officer Richard Anderson says the project is the type of cause the company likes to support.
"The mission of The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, which is to tell the compelling story of the ongoing quest for civil and human rights worldwide, is a vital one for our community," says Anderson. "Our support for the Center fits perfectly with Delta's focus on directing our sponsorship dollars in Atlanta and elsewhere toward charitable organizations."
American Airlines has recently assisted in charity work as well. The company announced it will be supporting a gala and fundraiser for North Texas military families and paying tribute to World War II veterans.
