Major renovations are coming to the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport near West Bay, Florida. The facility will be getting something that will be sure to delight general aviation pilots - a fix-base operator.
The News Herald reports the new facility will boast a 5,000-square-foot terminal and more than 9,000 square feet of hangar space.
Sheltair Aviation Services was able to negotiate an agreement with the airport, according to the paper, and will operate the new facility.
Television news station WJHG quotes CEO Jerry Holland as indicating the FBO will be good for the economy.
"As we complete this big task here, I think you will see more and more general aviation people come and I think you're going to see a big smile on their face," said Holland.
Having such a facility will also help keep the airport competitive. Earlier this summer, for example, the Chattanoogan reported the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport hand plans to break ground on a 9,000-square-foot terminal.
Having the proper facilities in place may keep aircraft safe. Proper maintenance and refueling can help prevent an accident. However, it is important to purchase life insurance for pilots should something go wrong with a flight.
