Another Boeing 787 takes to the sky

The sixth and last Boeing 787 Dreamliner has completed its test flight. More testing will still be done on the plane, however. Such tests will see how the aircraft will perform in certain weather conditions and other situations.
Vice president and general manager of the 787 program Scott Fancher says he is pleased that the final 787 has joined the fleet.
"We have been focused on completing the testing required for certification of the 787 with Rolls-Royce engines, because that is the first model we deliver," says Fancher. "A great deal of the testing that we've done also applies to the 787s with GE engines and won't need to be repeated."
So far the 787 flight test program has finished more than 65 percent of the flight test conditions. Fancher says the airplane has reportedly handled well and will be an asset to customers.
Last month, AviationWeek reported that one of the 787 aircraft experienced an engine surge before takeoff. Boeing notes, however, that the crew and aircraft were safe. At that time, Boeing said they were unsure of how, or if, the event would delay their testing schedule.
