AOPA recommends ways to streamline GA regulatory process

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has submitted a list of recommendations to the Department of Transportation as part of a transportation-wide regulatory review, the group announced.
According to the AOPA vice president of regulatory affairs, Rob Hackman, their recommendations would "promote economic growth in general aviation; lessen the burdens imposed on pilots, owners, and aircraft manufacturers; reduce paperwork by lessening frequency and allowing for electronic submission of forms; as well as address changes in technology and economic conditions."
Among the group's suggestions for streamlining the general aviation process are reviewing the pilot medical certification process, enhancing testing methods and eliminating the expiration date on aircraft registration document, allowing for online validation.
Improving the sometimes overbearing and expensive restrictions could allow pilots the opportunity to redirect those funds towards important practices and investments for pilots, such as aircraft maintenance and pilot life insurance. Life insurance for pilots is essential as it helps provide for their families, as well as the expenses they leave behind, should they perish during a plane crash.
