Being eco-conscience isn't isolated to a small group of people anymore. Many Americans are concerned about the impact their actions have on the environment.
Transportation pollution is one of the most damaging to the environment and the aviation industry has faced scrutiny for years over the amount of chemicals aircraft emit.
The aviation industry has taken steps to help clean-up its image. At the United Nationals Framework Convention on Climate Change 16th Conference of the Parties, the industry's efforts to reduce pollution levels were recognized.
Aerospace Industries Association president and CEO Marion Blakey says at last year's conference, few were aware of the progress the industry made.
"Some will say that not enough was accomplished at Cancun last week," says Blakey. "However, recognition of aviation's leadership to reduce emissions, which has taken years of hard work to forge from a huge group of stakeholders, is a significant step forward."
It's important not to forget the environmental impact airplanes have. According to the Sightline Institute, one of the problems with air transportation is that the chemicals emitted from aircraft deplete good ozone and create bad ozone.
