Aviation spreads to the Bay State

Massachusetts isn't known for being an aviation hot-spot like Ohio or other states, but aviation fever may be spreading.
Worcester Regional Airport recently held its first Aviation Discovery Weekend camp where teens got to try their hand at flying. The inaugural camp session drew in eight teens this summer, according to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
The paper reports that the Allen family is trying to generate local interest in aviation and are reaching out to teens and the community to spread word about the flight school they recently took over.
"A lot of people grow up not knowing aviation is available to them," Flight school owner and instructor William Allen told the paper. "They don't realize aviation is really a sport .
It's seeing the world in a new way."
People interested in becoming a pilot come from all walks of life. Some people start off attending a camp, while others wait until later in life and attend a four-year training program. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association says that training at a local airport to become a pilot can cost roughly $3,000 to $5,000.
