BBA Aviation PLC recently announced it purchased the Alabama-based airport operator Azalea Aviation for $27.3 million in cash. BBA has also bought 95 percent of the flight services firm Arrindell Aviation in the Caribbean for $7.8 million in cash. Arrindell Aviation provides commercial, business and general aviation services at St. Maarten's Princess Julianna International Airport.
According to MarketWatch, both acquisitions were made through BBA's support services unit Signature Flight Support. BBA CEO Simon Pryce said the purchases aim to strengthen the flight services provider's position in the North American aviation market. BBA will continue to pursue future acquisitions to increase its market share in the United States.
Sharecast reported the acquisitions bring the total number of purchases of North American fixed base operations to 65, and 111 worldwide.
"We remain focused on taking advantage of the consolidation opportunities in the fragmented FBO market as part of the group's broader growth strategy," Pryce told the source. While aviation firms are expanding their global reach, pilots should continue to practice safe flying and invest in pilot insurance to safeguard against the unexpected.
