With the unemployment rating hovering around 10 percent, Washington state residents are about to get a jolt to their economy.
The state stands to gain 11,000 jobs and $693 million in economic help from the Boeing NewGen Tanker.
"The Boeing team in Washington state has an outstanding track record meeting the needs of U.S. warfighters by delivering the finest military derivatives of commercial aircraft in the world," says Muilenburg. "I am confident that the thousands of men and women at Boeing and our suppliers working on the NewGen Tanker will carry on that same tradition of excellence for many years to come."
Furthermore, the Boeing NewGen Tanker will be more affordable to own and operate. Boeing says the aircraft will save taxpayers more than $10 billion because it is more fuel-efficient than those currently in use.
Making airplanes more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly has long been a goal of the government. At the Green Aviation Summit earlier this year, NASA officials and experts from government agencies and academia met to discuss ways to make flying less harmful to the environment.
