According to a recent report, Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed a piece of legislation that may make the state friendlier to general aviation. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association said the law, which Crist signed on May 27, gives out-of-state planes a break from Florida's 6 percent use tax. As it stood before the legislation, those visiting the state might have to pay the tax if they visited within six months of having bought an aircraft. "I am confident this legislation maintains Florida's stellar reputation as a business and tourist-friendly state," Crist said, according to the report from the AOPA. With the tax out of the way, aircraft owners may have another reason to go to the state. Furthermore, efforts are being made in Florida's Lee County to encourage general aviation through building a new complex at Page Field General Aviation Airport. The new facility will include a two-story terminal building and a multiuse hanger. The new construction could bring an additional $28 million to the area's economy at a cost of $16.2 million.
