Most students don't obtain technical aviation training until they are in their college years. However, a group of youngsters at Questar III Rensselaer Educational Center in Troy, New York will be able to get hands-on experience fixing airplanes next fall, according to news station WTEN.
School administrators say the U.S. State Department donated an aircraft to the school, reports the station. Three more aircraft will be on the school's campus in time for the upcoming school year.
Aviation maintenance technology teacher John Mahony told the station aviation jobs are in demand.
"Aviation maintenance technology is going to be a rapidly growing field," says Mahony. "Boeing sees that there's going to be a 10 percent increase in the need for aviation maintenance technicians over the next 10 years."
According to Aircraft Maintenance Technology, some avionics make up to $32 an hour. They say mechanics have a higher maximum salary, but management positions bring in more money on average.
While making a solid income is important, it isn't the only thing people should consider when selecting a career. One should also consider skill set and interests.
