The Experimental Aircraft Association has named its third president, Rod Hightower.
The decision to hire the business manager and Stearman pilot comes after a long search involving 700 candidates, reports the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Current president Tom Poberezny said that he feels stepping down at a time when the organization is in good health is the right thing to do, according to AOPA. While he will no longer be president, Poberezny will still be involved with the organization by serving as chairman.
Other aviation organizations have already begun to extend a welcome to Hightower. AOPA president Craig Fuller said that he eagerly anticipates working with Hightower and maintaining a relationship with Poberezny.
"When I became the president of AOPA, Tom Poberezny welcomed me warmly, and since then we have developed a strong, collaborative relationship that has served our members and the entire GA community well," Fuller said. "I'd like toextend the same warm welcome to Rod and look forward to getting to know him and develop the kind of cooperative relationship with him that I have enjoyed with Tom."
EAA was established in 1953 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to serve the needs and interests of those who participate in aviation.
