AirVenture dampened by rain

It appears that the rain storms in Oshkosh, Wisconsin are putting a damper on this year's Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture air show.
Aviation Week reports that attendance for the show is down 75 percent. All that could change, though, as the weather is expected to brighten up a bit by the end of the week.
"I've been involved with EAA for 35 years and this is by far the most challenging AirVenture we've experienced," EAA president and chairman Tom Poberezny told Aviation Week. "This is a little like going into the ring with Ali or Frazier."
Wittman Regional Airport typically serves as a temporary landing ground for 5,000 aircraft for the show each year, reports Aviation Week. However, this year less than 1,200 are there at this time because the grounds are soaked from relentless rain. Many aircraft had to be diverted to nearby airports, reports Aviation Week, but the exact number is unknown.
The air show is scheduled until August 1 this year. According to EAA, there are 2,500 aircraft are on display.
