Air Facts, a 74-year-old aviation magazine that was originally published for private pilots in 1938, was recently reinvented as an online journal. The magazine was one of the first publications specifically designed for the growing population of pilots as air travel became accessible to the general population.
The magazine was groundbreaking at the time of its launch and addressed many important issues for pilots including planes, technology, pilot insurance and safety information. Leighton Collins first started the magazine for the everyday pilot who was flying his or her own personal planes across the country. Leighton invited these pilots to share their stories and information through the magazine, thus uniting the industry.
Also a piece of aviation history, the Carolinas Aviation Museum has been offering informative and interactive aircraft displays and other aviation exhibits for many years and continues to add new pieces to its collection. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported the museum houses about two dozen aircrafts, documenting the transformation of planes and flight technology through the decades. One of its more recent exhibits displays the Airbus A320 of Flight 1549 that Captain Sully Sullenberger and his crew were flying when they were forced to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River in January 2009.
