Homeland Security releases new international security measures

The Department of Homeland Security announced recently new security measures for international flights coming in to the U.S.
The new measures will have international travelers see an increase in security screening during the check-in process. That could also include technology that can detect trace amounts of explosives or provide enhanced imaging during screening.
The goal of the new security measures is to provide more flexibility in the process and should allow security personal to utilize the most current information available about potential threats.
"These new measures utilize real-time, threat-based intelligence along with multiple, random layers of security, both seen and unseen, to more effectively mitigate evolving terrorist threats," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said.
Recently, other international safety measures were agreed to by the U.S. and the European Union through an expansion of the 2007 Open Skies initiative. The agreement affects a number of issues, including security, flight paths and high labor standards.
The environment was also a topic covered by the agreement as airlines on both sides of the ocean look to reduce their impact on the globe.
