New airport facilities in Florida leave some pilots disappointed

Some general aviation pilots in Bay County, Florida are still experiencing frustration with airport conditions, even though a new one has been built for them.
Currently, 60 general aviation hangars sit idle at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, partially because contract specifications haven't been met, reports ABC affiliate WMBB-TV.
Bay Aircraft Owners board member Mary Sittman feels that people underestimate the important role general aviation pilots play in the community. They are responsible for the transportation of goods ranging from medical lab tests to FedEx packages, she told WMBB-TV.
Problems with the new airport include power sources and drainage issues, Sittman told the television station. However, those aren't the only things that have the pilots disappointed with the new facility.
"All the general aviation pilots were upset because we didn't get a cross wind runway and so we at least hoped our hangars would equal to what we had," Sittman told WMBB-TV.
Despite the disgruntled general aviation pilots, some things appear to be going well for the airport. The Panama City News Herald reports that business at the airport has exceeded many people's expectations.
