Leading aviation officials celebrated the fourth anniversary of the formation of the alliance last week. After launching four years ago, the group has been working diligently to educate the public about general aviation. The group lauded the fact 29 states have passed proclamations recognizing the importance of general aviation. As more people learn about the benefits of flying in smaller aircraft, the number of pilots life insurance policies sold may increase as well.
"General aviation is such a crucial, yet often under-recognized part of our economy, and I hope that we are finally beginning to help our public to understand how important it is for our nation," said Mayor Carl Brewer of Wichita, Kansas.
When the alliance formed there were only a few hundred members, but there are now 5,700 member organizations and individuals. The group also sent a letter to President Obama with an economic impact survey which included details about how general aviation directly affects all areas of the country.
Alliance members believe that general aviation provides invaluable services to rural communities through medical care, law enforcement and disaster relief. Without their services food and supplies may not be able to reach people after tornadoes touch down or floods ruin crops.
