Business at Akron-Canton airport is picking up speed. The airport reports that it just experienced its busiest August on record and business is up 8 percent from last year. Almost every airline carrier at the airport reported an increase in business.
Airport president and CEO Rick McQueen says the increased number of patrons shows his team's efforts are paying off and he is pleased more people are choosing to travel through Akron-Canton airport.
"We loved welcoming so many new passengers to our airport in August," says McQueen. "It is a thrill to see travelers, many of whom don't know exactly what to expect when they walk through our doors for the first time, immediately relax."
Having a flourishing airport is important not only for it's own success, but for other businesses in the area as well. The Akron-Canton airport says its economic impact was more than $398 million in 2008.
In fact, the airport is one of the region's main employers, providing morethan 2,200 jobs. A number of hotel and restaurant workers are also at work because of the business and service needs of travelers in the area.
