New seat designed for short flights

Sitting in a cockpit may look like cramped quarters to some, but that may seem spacious if a new type of seat becomes commonplace on airplanes. A seat called the "SkyRider" created by Italian company Avionteriors aims to squeeze more passengers on flights with their new seat design.
The seat would afford passengers 23 inches, compared to the typical 30 or 32 inches most airlines provide. According to the company's website, the seat is designed to help keep flying profitable for airlines.
The seat has yet to be approved, but are designed to meet the needs of passengers going on shorter flights, says Avioninteriors director general Dominique Menoud.
"For flights anywhere from one to possibly even up to three hours ... this would be comfortable seating," Menoud told USA Today. "The seat ... is like a saddle. Cowboys ride eight hours on their horses during the day and still feel comfortable in the saddle."
Some experts question whether the new seats would be appealing to American passengers. Airplane rides already have a reputation for being cramped. Currently, a number of airlines already charge additional fees for those seeking more leg room.
