Pilotworkshops.com buys the rights to ZD Publishing

February 7, 2013, 10:40 am

Pilotworkshops.com is looking to help pilots not only utilize their GPS's full capabilities, but master every aspect of them. The aviation website recently announced that it has purchased the assets to ZD Publishing, which include the supply and rights to ZD's pilot GPS manuals.

The manuals have been used in the past to help pilots with their Garmin and Bendix/King panel-mount and handheld GPS units. With the federal aviation administration striving to implement its Next Generation Air Transportation System, which will replace old ground-based radar systems with satellite GPS, pilots need to be prepared.

“We've been working closely with ZD Publishing since 2011 and have received tremendous feedback from our customers who have purchased their manuals," said Mark Robidoux, president of PilotWorkshops.com. "In particular, pilots appreciate the task-oriented nature that quickly gets to the root of what a pilot needs from their GPS. They focus on getting something done as opposed to the ‘buttonology' focus in many manufacturer manuals."

Robidoux added that the company talked with many IFR pilots who were frustrated that they were not fully taking advantage of all the features of their GPS, adding that gaining mastery of the devices is the core value the manuals offer.

General aviation airplanes are a testament to the industry's growth, which has been one business sector that handled the recession like a clear day landing.

SkyQuest adds Kodiak to dealers
In a separate announcement made last month, SkyQuest said that it has made the Quest Kodiak airplane an authorized dealer for their locations in Africa, North Carolina, Virginia, District of Colombia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

“The Kodiak is the perfect fit for the markets we have served and lived in for the past 25 years,” said Greg Melang, president and founder of SkyQuest International. “We look forward to a successful relationship with Quest Aircraft Co. and the customer base this outstanding aircraft will serve.”

The Kodiak is an ideal plane for rugged conditions as it only needs 705 feet of runway to land and can take off in under 1,000 feet at full gross weight, company officials noted. Once it's in the air, the plane climbs at 1,300 feet per minute.

Officials also noted that the Kodiak is a good fit for humanitarian, air ambulance, skydive and surveillance missions, as it is fit to land without an airport.

Those in the general aviation community need to become ready for the FAA implementation of the NextGen System, however they can get their own personal finances in order by obtaining pilot life insurance
