Plane crashes during a flight training session

A flight to Spinks Airport in Fort Worth, Texas ended with a bang, when a student pilot rolled a Cessna 172 during a lesson in touch-and-go landings. Take-off went awry when the single-engine plane veered to the left just after leaving the ground, causing it to crash. The plane's nose landing gear collapsed and the left wing was damaged, according to the Associated Press.
The Dallas Morning News reported that the instructor was unharmed by the crash, and the student pilot was taken to the hospital for minor back pain, but sustained no serious injuries.
Airport director Kent Penney described the crash to the news source as a "hard-landing." The training flight, which originated in Arlington, Texas, serves as a reminder of the dangers of aviation.
Pilot life insurance can be a sound investment as aviation fatalities averaged between about 500 and 800 deaths per year from 1998 to 2008, according to a report by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Injuries related to aviation are far fewer, with only 258 injuries reported for general aviation in 2008.
