Plane crashes in Chicago suburb

A 69-year-old man was flying a small plane near Elgin, Illinois, when it crashed after attempting to take off. The pilot, Frank Kehoe, died after the single-engine experimental plane plummeted into an open field. The pilot was the only person on the plane, and was found dead by rescue crews.
Authorities do not know where Kehoe was headed when he took off. The plane crashed just outside of a private airport, and Kehoe was an experienced flyer. Aviation officials and the local sheriff's department found the wreckage near the Olsen Airport close to the Plato Center in Elgin. According to the Chicago Tribune, the owners of the private airport were not present at the time of the crash, and have no further information regarding the cause of the incident.
The St. Charles Patch reported the plane was found flipped upside down at the site, and the incident remains under investigation. The crash is the second fatal accident involving experimental planes in Kane County, Illinois, in the past four months. At the end of July, John Morrison from Aurora crashed a small experimental plane in Big Rock Township after taking off from Aurora Airport. Pilot insurance could protect the two pilots and their families in these cases.
