A small plane carrying the head coach and assistant coach of the Oklahoma State's women's basketball team recently crashed in Arkansas. The small plane collided with a wooded hillside, resulting in the deaths of the two coaches. Investigators are still searching for the source of the crash, as the weather did not seem to be a factor.
"About the only think we can say right now is that it was not the weather," National Transportation Safety Board investigator Jason Aguilar told the Chicago Tribune. "The skies were clear, the winds were calm. Right now, it's a big question mark to us as to what happened."
Investigators are focusing on the airframe and the pilot as possible causes to the crash, and are researching the pilot's medical background and previous flying experience. But there is always a chance a mechanical malfunction occurred causing the pilot to lose control of the plane, the source reported.
One crash that was caused by inclement weather conditions occurred in Fremont County, Idaho. NBC News affiliate KPVI reported a small plane flipped over after an attempted landing on a snow-covered runway. The pilot was trying to land on a private runway, but the slippery surface caused the plane to flip. Pilot insurance provides protection and peace of mind in such incidences.
