A small plane recently overshot a runway at Clermont County Airport, crashing into a number of fences before finally stopping in the middle of a road in Batavia Township, Ohio.
Cincinnati.com reported the plane was only carrying the pilot, who was unharmed in the landing. The Ohio Highway Patrol had to close down the street the plane landed on.
KY Post reported the pilot, Paul Redlich, was flying the Curtis P-40 when he heard a loud boom and the plane started to shake and smoke from the engine. When the engine blew, Redlich was flying at 6,500 feet and had to coast the plane towards the runway with limited visibility.
"I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any problems with anybody on the ground, I didn't want anybody to get hurt," Redlich told the source.
Redlich had rebuilt the plane prior to flying it, and plans to rebuild it again from the wreckage. Pilot insurance can help Redlich and other pilots pay for repairs and damages caused by unexpected malfunctions.
