Projected pilot shortage opens door for new student aviators

According to a recent Boeing report, over the course of the next 20 years, the airline industry is expected to hire more than 1 million new personnel, including some 466,000 pilots. Many of these pilot job openings are expected to be in the quickly expanding Asian market, which may call for an estimated 180,600 pilots by 2031, the Thousand Oaks Acorn reports.
In a response to this projected demand, many flight schools are seeing an influx of students. In Camarillo, California, the Channel Islands Aviation company has seen a recent boon in enrollment.
"The baby boomers that are senior airline captains are coming up on the age of 65, which is the mandatory retirement age," Sarah Oberman, the flight school manager for Channel Islands Aviation, told the source. "The major airlines (will) immediately start hiring from the regional airlines. In turn, those regional airlines are going to hire flight instructors from people like me."
As student pilots work toward a profession in commercial or independent aviation, they may want to consider a comprehensive pilot insurance plan. Pilots face a unique set of challenges, given the nature of their job, and specifically tailored pilot insurance can help cover an individual in the event of accident, injury or aviation-related sickness. Insuring an aircraft is also a complex process, and independent pilots who own a plane may want to consult a pilot's organization to find out about the best pilot insurance policies.
