AOPA to appoint regional managers
September 19, 2011, 05:12 pm
Craig Fuller, President of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, recently announced that the AOPA will appoint regional managers in an effort to engender effective communication at state and local levels, according to the AOPA. The regional managers will be tasked with improving and strengthening relations with the government and reinforcing bonds within the local aviation community.
Fuller noted that while regional managers have succeeded for years in establishing open lines of communication with the federal government, the needs of AOPA members must be addressed at a local level as well.
"In our experience, one of the best ways to promote and protect general aviation is for members of the aviation community to get engaged in support of our freedom to fly," Fuller told the source. "Together, our regional managers and representatives will give us more community-based resources to deploy in those efforts."
The current AOPA regional representatives will continue to service the organization at the federal level, and the new regional managers will supplement the existing administrative framework.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, civilian pilots and flight engineers held about 116,000 jobs in 2008. The recent downturn in the stockmarket had a significant effect on some commercial pilots' pensions, and some analysts suggest the commercial airline industy may see a sudden wave of pilot retirement in the coming months.
