Rare aircraft to be on display

July 7, 2010, 09:24 pm

A rarely seen aircraft will be on display this summer. The only privately flown BAE Sea Harrier can be seen in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the first time at the 2010 AirVenture aviation convention.

Aircraft owner Lieutenant Colonel Art Nalls has never attended the event before, but says that he can tell it will be a great venue.

AirVenture notes that in previous years, aircraft have been on-site that also feature the same vertical/short take-off and landing capabilities as the BAE Sea Harrier, but Nall says that his plane is quite different.

"The Sea Harrier is a fighter aircraft designed to shoot down enemy aircraft," says Nalls. He continued on to say that "the Sea Harrier has a bigger nose, a raised canopy for better visibility, and shorter wings."

Nalls' plane is not only the second Sea Harrier ever produced, but it's also the oldest one still intact, he says.

The BAE Sea Harrier dates back to the Royal Navy in the 1980's and was used in the Falklands war, according to United Kingdom-based website Aeroflight. ADNFCR-3158-ID-19879141-ADNFCR
