Regional airport debating name change

The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Ohio is undergoing numerous changes and upgrades to its facility, and officials are considering changing the airport's name to Northeast Ohio Regional Airport as well.
YNGAir Partners conducted a poll among the local community to see which potential new name would best suit the revamped airport, and 36 percent preferred Northeast Ohio Regional Airport, 10 percent said Mahoning Valley Regional Airport, 7 percent for Ohio-Penn Regional Airport and 7 percent for William H. McKinley Regional Airport.
However, before any concrete decisions can be made, airport officials must discuss the name change with county commissioners in Mahoning and Trumbull counties and the mayors of Youngstown and Warren. In order to change the name officially, the city of Youngstown must approve a resolution to allow it, which has not yet happened, The Vindicator reported.
"The consultant we are paying said it will bring more business to the airport, and that's what we're supposed to be doing," Port Authority member Don Hanni told the source.
According to airport aviation director Daniel Dickten, 36,810 passengers flew out of the airport in 2011, up 33 percent from 2010. If the airport is able to continue to increase its number of passengers, it could make more money on concessions, including parking, car rental and restaurants, Trib Today reported. While the airport is working on a new image, airlines using the facility will continue to focus on the fundamentals of safe flying, such as following protocol and investing in pilot insurance.
