Southern states offering flight incentives

In hopes of increasing air traffic and airport visitation numbers, airports in Georgia are offering pilots the chance to enter a competition if they fly for at least three hours and visit a minimum of three airports, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. For all of those people that have been hesitant to purchase or renew their pilots life insurance policy and head out on their own, this may be the incentive they need.
"People aren't selling their airplanes, but they're not flying them either," Atlanta Aero Club president Steve Champness told the news source.
Anyone that qualifies for the Georgia Air Challenge contest will be eligible to win an ATP or multi-engine rating from a leading flight school, or 50 gallons of fuel, according to the challenge website. The winners will be selected in August. Aviation enthusiasts hope that this incentive based program will reignite people's love for flying.
"I think most people will fly more than three hours anyways because that's just a primer," said Champness, quoted by the AOPA.
In Kentucky, at least 35 airports are participating in the state's similar airport challenge and participants can win an iPad with aviation applications, among other prizes, the AOPA reports.
