Travolta donates jet to hall of fame

February 6, 2012, 09:35 am

Famed actor, pilot and aviation enthusiast John Travolta recently donated his Gulfstream II executive jet to the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame at the museum near Robins Air Force Base. Currently, the Hall of Fame houses two planes in the Century of Flight Hangar - a small racing plane and a replica of a World War II bomber.

Travolta is donating his jet in honor of his son Jett, who passed away in 2009 from complications during a seizure. The twin-engine plane seats 14, and will be on display at an air show in late April.

Travolta has a history in the aviation industry, and in 2003 he won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation Award for Excellence in his efforts to promote commercial flying. In 2007, Travolta won the Living Legends Ambassador of Aviation Award, and he is currently qualified to fly several types of aircrafts, including a Boeing 707B.

Travolta and many other aviation enthusiasts enjoy the thrill of flying, but understand the dangers as well. Pilot insurance can help protect accidents or inclement weather while in the sky.
